When are royalty checks mailed out?
Royalty payments are issued quarterly during each calendar year. The quarters conclude on the last day of March, June, September, and December. Royalty checks are mailed by the 15th of the month following the close of each quarter. Accordingly, payments are sent by April 15th (for the March quarter), July 15th (for the June quarter), October 15th (for the September quarter), and January 15th (for the December quarter).
Why should I choose Wasteland Press?
The prices you are quoted cover printing services only. As a publishing company, it is our responsibility to market your book so we can succeed together — we work for you, not against you. You also have the opportunity to sell your complimentary copies and potentially recover your initial investment.
Few self-publishing companies offer this level of partnership along with the opportunity to earn back your investment. In addition, we provide full-service publishing at no additional charge. Our publishing plans include professional cover design (never template-based), complete interior formatting with headers and pagination to give your book a polished, industry-standard appearance, and dedicated one-contact customer service for personalized support throughout the process. We encourage you to compare our services — we are confident you will not find a better value.
Can Wasteland Press convert my book to Kindle eBook?
Yes, we do! With all of our publishing plans, we create a Kindle eBook edition of your book at no additional cost. Kindle eBooks remain the most widely purchased digital format in the industry, and your eBook will be made available alongside your printed edition on Amazon’s marketplaces for maximum visibility.
For even broader digital distribution, we can also make your book available through additional eBook platforms, such as Barnes & Noble’s Nook, for an additional fee.
Does Wasteland Press use high-pressure sales techniques?
Never. We are a customer-service-oriented company. When an author inquires about our services, we provide clear, detailed information and allow our work to speak for itself. We do not engage in high-pressure sales tactics, and we will never follow up with unwanted phone calls, emails, or other solicitations regarding your decision to publish with us. Our goal is for you to feel confident and fully informed when choosing to publish with Wasteland Press. We are committed to answering your questions honestly and take pride in operating as an ethical company that fully discloses every step of the publishing process.
Am I required to know a lot about computers?
Not at all. Simply provide a .txt-based file of your manuscript (MS Word, InDesign, etc.), and we will handle the rest. If you prefer to design your own cover, we provide detailed technical specifications to guide you here. Otherwise, our team will professionally design your cover at no additional charge.
Can I use my credit card to pay Wasteland Press?
Yes. We accept credit card payments, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. You may also pay by check or money order (payable in U.S. funds) by printing the order form and mailing it to the address provided.
What about my ownership rights in the work?
You retain full ownership and copyright of your work, giving you the freedom to sell it elsewhere at any time. You may also cancel your contract whenever you choose. If a larger publishing house expresses interest in acquiring your book, you are free to request that we remove it from our system—without penalty or additional fees.
Can I sell my free copies to others?
Absolutely! You retain full copyright ownership of your book. Once you receive your complimentary copies, they are yours to use as you wish—share them with family and friends, use them for promotional purposes, or sell them directly to readers for profit.
Who determines the price of my book?
Pricing is set by you, with guidance from Wasteland Press. We provide a recommended retail price range based on your book’s specifications, and you choose the final price within that range. For example, a 100-page book may have a suggested range of $8.95 to $15.95.
When deciding, consider two factors: royalties and competition. A higher price increases your royalty per sale, but your book should also be competitively priced within its genre to remain appealing to buyers.
How can I promote my book?
The most effective promoter of your book is you. No one understands the passion, purpose, and countless hours invested in your work better than you do. Because of that personal connection, you are uniquely positioned to share its message and convey why it matters—not only to you, but to your readers as well.
How much will it cost to reorder my book after I have sold my initial copies?
The cost to reorder your books depends on the quantity you purchase, similar to the pricing differences between our Platinum and Gold Plans. However, all reorder copies are guaranteed to be at least 50% off the suggested retail price—or more—with no hidden fees. Our goal is to empower you to profit from direct book sales, because your success contributes to ours.
Please note that these discounts apply to standard black-and-white paperback editions sold within the United States. Due to higher production costs, color books and books sold outside the United States are not eligible for this same discount.
Does Wasteland Press use templates when designing my cover?
No, we do not use templates. All of our covers—from the Basic Plan to the Ultimate Plan—are custom designed and uniquely created for each author at no additional cost. We believe your book deserves a professional, individualized design that stands out in the marketplace.
Your cover represents not only you as the author, but also us as your publishing partner. That’s why we place great importance on delivering a polished, professional cover that reflects the quality of your work.
What is the turnaround time for the publication of my book?
Most conventional paperback books take approximately 2–3 weeks to complete setup and publication. Full-color books and conventional hardback editions generally require 3–4 weeks. Once published, it typically takes an additional 2–4 weeks for your book to appear in the global marketplace, including Amazon and other third-party retailers. If timing is important to you, we are proud to offer one of the most efficient production schedules in the industry.
Can I use my purchased ISBN and my own publishing label?
Yes, you can. All you need to do is inform us of your own ISBN number and the label you would like to use for publishing your book upon submitting your materials for publication. However, you will need to register your title information with Bowker, since we are not the publishing label.
How can I calculate what my royalty will be for my book?
When your book is sold through a third-party retailer, a standard wholesale discount of 55% is applied to the retail price. This means Wasteland Press receives 45% of the book’s retail price, and your royalty percentage is calculated based on that amount.
For example, if your book retails for $10.00 and your royalty rate is 30%, a sale made directly through our website would earn you $3.00 per copy (30% of $10.00). However, if the same book is sold through a third-party retailer such as Amazon, your royalty would be calculated on the 45% received after the wholesale discount. Using the same example, $10.00 × 0.45 × 0.30 equals $1.35 per copy sold through a third-party retailer.

The books arrived today and they're beautiful! Anyone who doesn't use Wasteland Press to publish their book is a fool...This was my second publishing experience and there was absolutely no comparison. Publisher 'X' took ten months...Wasteland Press got it done in three weeks.
